I am proud to have received the endorsement of Boots of Recovery, an organization advocating for recovery of first responders, public safety officers, and military and honoring their lives regardless of how they died.
More police officers and firefighters die from suicide than in the line of duty due to PTSD and depression that result from repeated exposure to traumatic incidents and chronic workplace stress. Additionally, female officers and other first responders are sometimes exposed to harassment and isolation. Veterans of our military commit suicide at twice the rate of the general population. A comprehensive Veterans Administration study found that an average of 20 veterans commit suicide every day. Suicide is a major problem in the U.S. and especially among our first responders. This group, who wrote a blank check to our government to serve the people, deserve our close support.
